NEW YORK CITY (December 1, 2016) – The Central Park Winter Wonderland, now in its third week of holiday-themed festivities, has announced the long-awaited lineup for the ticketed New Year’s Eve concert event.

Headlining the evening is Tony- and Grammy-Award nominated singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles. Fresh off of her Broadway success, Waitress, Bareilles will perform a number of her popular hits on the evening of December 31, to hundreds of ticketholders celebrating the end of an eventful year.

“I’m so excited to ring in 2017 in Central Park this year,” said Bareilles, “It’s been such a crazy year for everyone. I think we could all stand to let loose and celebrate!”

Featured in the lineup is the Tony-winning actor and singer Leslie Odom Jr., known for his breakout success in the role of Aaron Burr, in the original cast of Hamilton: An American Musical. Since completing his widely-praised run in the award winning musical, Odom Jr. has released two albums and is pursuing a career as a solo artist.

Also included in the concert lineup are feel good pop-techno band MisterWives and the up-and-coming indie group San Fermin. The opening performers are yet to be announced.

On the evening of December 31, the festival will close one hour early at 7 pm to allow guests without tickets to exit the park. Doors will open at 8 pm for ticketed guests to visit the park, with the first performers beginning at 8:30 pm. Most rides and some vendors, including several selling hot holiday food and drinks, will remain open during the concert for guests to enjoy. The evening will include a countdown at midnight, and the event will conclude at 1:30 am.

Tickets are general admission and will go on sale at midnight on December 5, 2016. For more information and to buy tickets, visit CentralParkWinterWonderland.wordpress.com.

THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA’S WELLBEING PROJECT

How can a city’s governing body truly embody the phrase ‘by the people, for the people’? The City of Santa Monica asked the same question three years ago. The city’s government wanted to identify a way to better serve its residents, and improve the overall quality of life for those living in Santa Monica. But how could they measure a citizen’s quality of life? To answer this question, the City of Santa Monica developed the Wellbeing Project.

The Wellbeing Project innovates the way local government understands its residents, by weaving Santa Monica residents’ quality of life into the foundation of the city’s government and its policy. To do this, the groundbreaking process measures the people of Santa Monica’s wellbeing by utilizing scientific metrics that focus on both the macro and micro scales across five dimensions of experience: community, place, health, learning, and opportunity.

In 2013, the Wellbeing Project was entered into the Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Mayors Challenge. The Mayors Challenge is a competition between hundreds of cities to win millions of dollars, coaching, and support for their attempt to realize a bold idea to improve the way government works. Of course, due to its unprecedented innovation, the Wellbeing Project won.

Following its win, the City of Santa Monica formed dozens of partnerships in order to implement its project. Partnerships were created between the city and community leaders, an international panel of experts, the New Economics Foundation, RAND (a nonprofit research corporation), and more, to devise a multidimensional framework that measures actionable wellbeing metrics for the people and community of Santa Monica.

The result was the April 2015 release of the first annual Wellbeing Index, a measurement tool that provides a full picture of Santa Monica’s strengths and opportunities across key elements of wellbeing. These elements include economics, community relationships, health, education, culture, and the environment (both built and natural) that the government uses in internal collaboration with partners, city leadership, and the collective impact of community engagement.

Already, the findings have been incorporated into the 2015-2017 Fiscal Year budgets planning to influence policy decision-making and program development. The city is now the first in the U.S. to include measurable wellbeing metrics as a foundational part of the government’s fabric.

Now, the Wellbeing Project works to foster a connected and thriving environment more conducive to health, opportunity, and quality of life. The data contained in the Wellbeing Index can influence city policies, decisions, and allocation of internal resources in all areas of government. Moreover, the long-term success of the project is inherent in the City of Santa Monica’s ability to integrate these metrics into the fabric of the city’s governance. By doing so, the process becomes a model of methodology that can be replicated and deployed by other city governments, to foster positive relationships between residents and governing bodies worldwide.
